Running Shoes that Famous Athletes and Celebrities Wear (With photos)

Running is one of the favorite physical activities of celebrities and athletes. They do that to stay in tip-top shape not only for their sport but also for the cameras. That said, have you ever wondered what running shoes they wear? After all, athletes only use the best while celebrities buy shoes based on performance, not budget.

To find out what running shoes these famous athletes and celebrities wear, I stalked their Instagram accounts, looked at random ‘spotted’ posts on Twitter, watched workout videos on YouTube, and listened to podcasts where they mentioned the shoes they’re wearing.

She was seen wearing a pink Nike Vaporfly Next % in a marathon race in New York.

She also stated in an interview that she wears a responsive Nike Epic React for workouts that require speed and a cushioned Nike Zoom Pegasus for longer and slower runs.

Cameron Hanes

Cameron Hanes is a tough and muscular bowhunter, endurance runner, and book author. He is famous for the “Keep Hammering” slogan and is tenured Under Armour athlete.

In his Instagram post, he was seen running in an Under Armour Hovr Sonic 3. Under Armour also made a HOVR™ Machina Off-Road CH1 Runnings Shoes containing his slogan on the heel counter.

In Joe Rogan’s Instagram post, he received a pair of the said shoes from Cameron Hanes himself.

Callum Hawkins

Callum Hawkins is the Scottish marathon record holder and the first British man to win the Great Scottish Run in 23 years.

Hawkins is a New Balance athlete so it’s hard to catch him wearing the same shoes over and over again. But needless to say, he wears New Balance most, if not, all of the time.

He runs with a New Balance 1080v11 for longer runs and swears by the New Balance FuelCell TC for short, fast runs.

Conor Macgregor

The fighting Irishman and the highest-paid athlete is one of the most popular athletes in the world.

Conor Macgregor trains his cardio by running, biking and rowing.

In one of his videos, he was seen wearing a Blue Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% doing a 10 km run followed by a 20 km bike.

In his recent Instagram post, he was wearing a green Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next% riding a bicycle to the gym.

Courtney Dauwalter

If you’re looking for someone who can test a running shoe to its limit, it’s probably Courtney Dauwalter. She is known for 200-mile races up to 10 hours ahead of second place. In addition, she has a reputation for being the woman who outruns men.

Needless to say, she needs ultra-reliable trail shoes, which she trusts Salomon with.

In her Instagram post, she was seen wearing a Salomon S/Lab Ultra and according to an article published by Salomon, Dauwalter won the 2019 UTMB with a Salomon S/Lab Ultra 2.

If you’re thinking about buying one, the Salomon S/Lab Ultra 3 (link to Amazon) is out and she probably already upgraded her running shoes.

In another Instagram post, she was also seen wearing a Salomon Sense Ride 3. (Sense Ride 4 is also out now).

David Goggins

David Goggins is an ultramarathoner, Guinness book of record holder for the most number of pull-ups done in 24 hours, and former Navy Seal.

He is known for running back to back to back 100-mile races and doing all sorts of supposedly impossible tasks that earned him the title ‘’toughest man alive’’.

In his early days, he was seen wearing a Brooks Addiction in the Badwater competition.

However, recent videos of him running reveals a white Brooks Glycerin 18.

In another video, he was also seen running in what appears to be a blue ASICS Gel-Nimbus 22.

Surely, that’s not all the shoes he has on his running shoe rotation considering he runs for about 10-15 miles a day. But he sure loves those shoes as he was seen running in them in a lot of videos.

Eliud Kipchoge

Eliud Kipchoge, originally from Kenya, is the first man to run a marathon in under 2 hours. And the shoe he wore? The Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next%.

Although that shoe allowed him to break the 2-hour marathon barrier, that’s not the only shoe he wears. Kipchoge wears other Nike shoes such as the Nike Vaporfly Next% and the Nike Pegasus.

Nike also has a Kipchoge edition embodying the colors of the Kenyan flag.

Mo Farah is a British long-distance runner who is a 4x Olympic gold medalist and accomplished track runner. He is the second man to win the 5,000 and 10,000 meters run in successive Olympic games.

He has a Youtube channel where he shows his followers his gears and training.

In one of his videos, he revealed that when it comes to training shoes he is a Nike Pegasus fan and brings at least 6 pairs with him when he’s traveling for training.

He has a special Pegasus made just for him called the “Mo Pegasus” which has a shorter heel counter to prevent it from reaching his Achilles heel.

The fun part is the backstory behind Mo Pegasus’ version. “I’ve had (an) Achilles problem since 2010, and they (the heel counter) keep rubbing my Achilles. Happens to a lot of runners and for you struggling with an Achilles problem make sure you cut your shoes at the back. That will help you a lot” said Mo.

“I used to cut my shoe, that’s why they (Nike) decided to make it look good, which they have” he added.

Aside from his daily trainer, he uses Nike Sub 2 for marathons and Nike Air Zoom Matumbo for the track.

He endures pain not only in his sport but also in real life. The 35-year-old was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer called primary pulmonary NK/T-cell lymphoma and is battling cancer to this day.

In his Twitter post, he was seen wearing a blue Altra Superior while running up a mountain. In his Instagram, he posted a photo of himself wearing an Altra Escalante racer in the Boston marathon and Craft CTM Ultra Carbon in what seems to be a regular running session.

Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt is considered to be the fastest man alive. He is the only sprinter to win titles in a back to back to back titles in 3 consecutive Olympics. Currently, Usain Bolt has 8 Olympic gold medals under his belt and retired in 2017.

He is a Puma-sponsored athlete so it is expected that he only runs in Puma. That said, he used the Theseus Pro sprint spike and Puma Bolt evoSPEED electric sprint in his races.

In another Instagram post, she posted a photo of her running with a black New Balance 1080v11.

Chris Hemsworth

There’s no question that Chris Hemsworth – who portrays the role of the God of Thunder in Marvel’s Avengers, stays in shape despite his character gaining a little weight (or maybe more than a little) in Avenger’s End Game.

And although his workouts consist more of high-intensity, functional movements, he’s occasionally photographed running.

In one instance, he was seen running in the streets of New York in a black and white Adidas Ultra Boost

Not only is he known for his wittiness and skill in commentating and making people laugh, but he’s also known to be incredibly fit.

As a matter of fact, Joe Rogan revealed in his podcast his interest in running, even more so, trail running.

The American comedian has tried out several running shoes, but one that he was always interested in was minimalist shoes. So, in an old Instagram post, he promoted the benefits of minimalist shoes while wearing a Vibram Five Fingers which he rotates with a Salomon Speedcross 3 (not a minimalist shoe).

By the way, if you’re planning to get Salomon Speedcross 3, I suggest get the latest version, the Salomon Speedcross 5. You can buy them at Amazon.

More recently, however, he revealed that Cam Hanes hooked him up with a Hovr Machina Off-Road CH1 and later posted a photo of him swinging kettlebells wearing that trail running shoes (shown above).

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds is a Canadian actor who portrayed the character of Deadpool. He is known for his pretty face and humor.

Reynolds was seen running in the New York marathon with a black and gold Saucony ProGrid Paramount.

The Wrap Up

It’s important to note that these shoes are probably not the only ones they wear. These are running shoes that they wear when they post a photo or are spotted in public.

In finding the right running shoes, it’s good to take a look at what professional athletes and celebrities wear. That will give you a starting point on finding the right running shoes. However, it is best to test it out for yourself. After all, running shoes come down to the preference and comfort of the runner.

If you need help in finding the right running shoes, I made an article that will help you choose a running shoe

Nicho Mauricio

Running wasn't always my favorite sport. I was a CrossFit athlete and I loved every bit of it. But since the pandemic began, I was forced to stay away from the gym and train at home instead. Things got boring. That's when I decided to trail run with my friends. I instantly got hooked. So I started training and researching all things running. As a beginner, I want to buy only the best running gear and do only the best practices. This blog is where I share what I've learned in my journey and my experiences as a runner.
